The 2024 Korean Adoptees in Australia Network Inc (KAIAN) Sydney Gathering was the first ever Korean adoptee conference in Australia with international attendance, welcoming Korean adoptee friends from other countries and delegates from Korean’s Overseas Korean Agency. This was in celebration of KAIAN’s 10 year anniversary as an organisation and it was our genuine pleasure to host 100 attendees across the three days.

This was an incredible show of what is possible through an outstanding volunteer team and the global network of Korean adoptee organisations, sharing event planning experience to help make this possible.

We opened the weekend at the Korean Cultural Centre then moved into the main conference day which facilitated sessions discussing lived experiences, search for origins, wellness, identity, and creative expression. Saturday night was party time with an incredible banquet of Korean food with the weekend concluding with a Sunday community picnic under the Sydney Harbour bridge.

This will go down as one of our organisation’s proudest moments, with the success of the event sparking heightened interests in the adoptee community as well as bringing forward a number of new volunteers who want to help sustain this community into the future.
